IBTab allows for the Bursting and Distribution of a Tableau Workbook based on any data source.  This help topic will illustrate the workflow.  The starting point is a Tableau Workbook that has been published to Tableau Server.  In this example, the workbook contains five Worksheets and one Dashboard.  The intent is to burst based on one of the Dimensions in the Workbook and use InfoBurst's Intelligent Bursting functionality to distribute the output via Email.

Option 1:  Watch the Video Tutorial

Option 2:  Review the step by step directions

Build a Tableau Dashboard and publish to Tableau Server.  The workbook may be based on any data source available in Tableau.

Next, Catalog the workbook in InfoBurst.  From the main menu, select New/Document.

Select Platform as the source, and select the Tableau platform that has been configured in InfoBurst.  Navigate to the Project where the Workbook has been saved and select the workbook.  The Projects available will be based on the permissions for the Tableau account configured in Platform Configurations.

InfoBurst will catalog the Dimensions in the Tableau Workbook.  Any of these dimensions can be used as the source of the Burst which will split the Tableau Workbook into separate PDF and/or PNG files containing only data for the burst dimension.  In this sample workflow, the burst will be based on Product Category Name.

Next, create the Burst to process the Tableau Workbook.

Give the Burst a meaningful Name and Description.

Select the cataloged Tableau Workbook as the Document source for the burst.

Next, on the Filters tab, select the Dimension to base the burst on.  Supply the values for the filter manually, or with a Data Source query (as is shown below).

Add a Delivery.

Give the Delivery a name, then select Email Inbox as the Destination.  The File Name can be constructed using InfoBurst's Macro Builder.  In this example, the file name will be dynamic with the Product Category Name and the text "- Dashboard".  (i.e. Bikes - Dashboard; Clothing - Dashboard; Accessories - Dashboard, etc.)

The Email field is populated from the Data Source - a query from the database that returned the Product Category Name and the associated Email address.  The message can also be dynamic using the Macro Builder.  (i.e. "Here is the Bikes Dashboard!")

On the Format tab, select PDF as the format.  There is an option to select one or more (or all) of the worksheets in the source Tableau Workbook.

Run the Burst.

Emails are sent for each of the burst Dimension values, in this example, the Product Category Name - Accessories.  The name of the PDF file, and the Email message the dynamically generated value using the Macro Builder..

The attached PDF file contains a page for each of the Worksheets and Dashboards selected.

To create a Burst with a PNG Delivery, we can make a copy of the PDF Delivery and make the required changes.

Most of the settings do not have to be changed.  Change the name of the delivery and on the Format tab, change the format to PNG Image.

Run the Burst with the PNG Email Delivery selected.

Separate emails are sent for each Product Category Name. Each email contains the selected Worksheets and Dashboards from the Tableau Workbook with appropriate data for each category.
