This article describes the Excel to Tableau Hyper Workflow. This Workflow is used to produce a Hyper file from an Excel workbook and deliver the file to Tableau Server.

Select New > Workflow > Excel to Tableau Hyper

1 - Document

  • Select Excel Location and Continue
  • Select an Excel workbook
  • Select Continue

2 - Delivery

  • Select a destination Tableau Platform
  • Select a destination Project
  • Select Sheet(s): Select one or more worksheets to include in the Hyper file
  • Select Continue


  • File Name: Enter a static file name or select the M icon to create a file name using macros
  • Replace: Uncheck to prevent replacement of existing file
  • First Row Headers: Uncheck if first data row is not column headers
  • Warn if empty (do not create): Select this option to prevent delivery of an empty Hyper file

3 - Schedule

  • When: Select and configure a Schedule frequency
  • Select Continue

4 - Summary

  • Workflow Summary: Summary of Workflow configuration
  • Run Now: Run Workflow on demand
  • Unwrap Workflow: Administrator-only option to split Workflow into its component parts (Document/Burst/Schedule)
